How will the Campaign go about creating these schools?

First, we are developing a comprehensive Community School Design Document. This model is similar to a business plan and will detail how these communities are to be designed and built. Our team is devoting our first year towards this task. Our preliminary discussion document was published in June, 2010, and unveiled at the UUA's General Assembly. After thorough review and collaboration with professionals in the second half of the year, our final Community School Design Document will be published in January of 2012.

Next, our supporters will be invited to pledge towards the founding of our first Community School. Formal pledge documents will be mailed out to interested parties and the executed copies will then be forwarded to the Community Schools Trust. Similar to the endowments of many UU congregations, this trust will be administered by the Treasurer of the UUA to ensure that these monies are properly invested and managed prior to the building of our schools.

Lastly, when enough funds have been pledged, we will begin planning the siting and construction of our schools. For each school, we expect it to take two to three years to acquire a location, design the space, gain the necessary approvals/authorizations, have contractors renovate/build the space, recruit staff, and have students arrive.

When 5 communities have been founded, the Campaign will dissolve, sending any remaining funds to the Community Schools Trust for use among the existing schools.

How can I stay up to date on the campaign?
